A shoe compliment question ?

I stood next to a random girl at a concert the other night and I happened to have noticed the kinda shoes she was wearing... she was wearing adidas sambas, which are one of my favorite shoes. Would it have been awkward to say to her "its nice to see girls still wearing sambas ... there really cool shoes" ? How would girls interpret that?
