I don't think he's really using you as much as he is confused. He doesn't know whether to pick you, his ex, or take other options. He may be taking advantage of the situation, but that doesn't mean he isn't interested. In fact, I'm sure he's interested in you as more than just a '**** buddy' (very few guys are really this shallow, even if we appear to be, we're just confused). He's confused, he doesn't know which path to take, but you're one of the paths he may take, and that path makes you more than a '**** buddy'.
